Latvian Piano Migrations

I have just returned from a trip to Riga installing Piano Migrations at International Theatre Festival, Homo Alibi : recycled. An old Russian Oktava upright was donated for me to dismantle – some of the keys didn’t work, it was quite out of tune, but the actual strings were in amazingly good condition… an ideal candidate to recycle into an installation.

The space was amazing – I had a whole room of the huge Tobacco Factory to install the work. The festival had taken over the whole building – which was 4 stories, with enormous rooms on each floor … quite spectacular.

I had expert help from Oskars and Ainars, here is a timelapse film of us preparing the piano.
