Nonclassical Directions, St Luke’s, London.
Last night, Powerplant (Joby Burgess on percussion, Matt Fairclough on sound and Myself on visuals) were featured in the recent Nonclassical Directions concert curated by Gabriel Prokofiev at LSO St Lukes, London. We performed Gabriel’s Import / Export, suite for global junk – namely an oil drum, plastic bags, fanta bottles and a wooden pallet – with serious amounts of live effects, sampling and looping. This was accompanied by live-edited archive film footage of goods being transported around the world. The venue was packed audience, and it went down well. Here is a review.
This was the programme:
David Lang – The Anvil Chorus
Gabriel Prokofiev – Concerto for Turntables (special 3 turntable version)
Gabriel Prokofiev – Import/Export: Suite for Global Junk
Gabriel Prokofiev – Stolen Guitars (world premiere)
Gabriel Prokofiev – new work for cello & eight loudspeakers (world premiere)
Thanks to Gabriel for putting on a great night with some really interesting music.
