Echo Location at The Pad, Bedford
Last Saturday (10th Dec) Bedford Creative Arts held an event to showcase the Echo Location Sound map of Bedford we have been creating together with the people of Bedford. You can look at the interactive online soundmap by myself and Ed Holroyd online here. It is still an ongoing project, and anyone can continue to upload sounds and visit the site to play with the map. We really enjoyed the project which involved going out into Bedford with various groups of local Bedfordians to uncover the soundworlds of Bedford… some unusual, some everyday. At the Pad I gave a short talk about the project and screened a short movie which is a recording of me playing with the soundmap, using it to try and make a musical soundscape from the uploaded sounds… it’s good fun to play with…. go and have a go!…visit the site here… please watch the following movie in HD, so you can see the text on screen….
I also set up a new, updated version of ‘Soundlines‘, an interactive drawing installation made with Matthew Olden. This invited people to draw over different sections of Bedford maps and reveal sounds as they drew to create a surround-sound composition.
